Students drew mental maps of the park while we interviewed them (see Methods for more detail). The map below (made by Amanda Waggoner) includes some of the features that students discussed while drawing their mental maps. Amanda and Lesya turned it into a hotspot image so that you can see how students described different places in the park (click on the circles for awesome kid quotes). Students saw the park as a place to connect to nature, a place where they learned, and a place that belonged to them. We also present our own analyses of the data, including what kinds of similarities and differences we found in terms of race, gender, and distance.
